My house is definitely not always as clean as I would like it to be. Both Nigel and I work full time jobs (with hour + commutes each way) and then with social commitments, going to the gym, and just wanting to sit on the couch and watch Netflix the little messes can certainly add up.
On my Saturdays alone I like to take time to really clean the house, but during the week it is much harder to find the time, or really want to spend those precious moments at the end of the day doing dishes, sweeping the floor, or folding the laundry.
This is why I really enjoy the introduction of the 10 minute tidy. Instead of feeling like there is so much to do and it will take the entire evening up to clean up the house, we set a timer for 10 minutes and just do as much as we can in that time.
This means that not everything is going to get clean, but that isn’t the point. The goal is to try and get rid of some of the surface clutter. Some of the things I like to get done in a 10-minute time frame is:
- Finish a sink of dishes
- Fold the laundry sitting in the dryer
- Clear the kitchen table
- Tidy the living room
- Sweep the floor
- Put away excess coats/shoes from the entrance
- Wipe down the bathroom sink/toilet
We love to put on a fun podcast that we listen to together or some upbeat music and while the time passes super quickly it is amazing what you can accomplish in such a short amount of time.
Again this is not meant to be a full clean or something very involved, but really it is just a way to get things a little bit more under control. It is nice to be able to go to be with things a little bit tidier before heading to bed and it makes those bigger weekend cleans a little bit easier as well.
Have you ever tried something like a 10-minute tidy?
