One of the unexpected benefits of being at home more is having the time to be creative with my drinks. Before we all started staying at home the only time that I got fun with a drink is when I went out to eat. At home I mainly stuck to wine and canned mixed drinks (which don’t get me wrong I have no problems with) but it has been fun to sit back in the evening with something a little bit fun.
Also please remember these are drinks from the past 4 months and to dink responsibly if you are trying any of these out.
Here are some of the drinks we have been trying:
Whisky Sour
This is such a simple drink but a great one at the same time. Replace the simple syrup with maple syrup for a Canadian Whisky Sour.
INGREDIENTS
- 2 ounces bourbon
- ¾ ounce fresh lemon juice
- ¾ ounce simple syrup
- ½ orange wheel (for serving)
- Maraschino cherry (for serving)
Kentucky Kiss

With Strawberries in season right now this is the perfect drink to add some to your evening. We added even more strawberries and a splash more lemon juice and it was a delightful drink.
INGREDIENTS
- 2 strawberries (fresh; washed, sliced)
- 1/2 ounce lemon juice
- 1/2 ounce maple syrup
- 2 ounces bourbon
- Splash club soda
Punch Romaine

This drink was actually served on the Titanic and while I hope my ending is less dramatic it was fun to drink something that resembles that of the 1st class passengers on that ship over 100 years ago.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 oz white rum
- 1 oz dry white wine
- 1 egg white
- .5 oz simple syrup
- .5 oz lemon juice
- 1 oz orange juice
- Champagne, to top
- Crushed ice
- Orange twist
Mojitos
This one is a classic but it is so nice and refreshing on a warm spring or summer day sitting outside, especially if you pick the mint yourself from your own garden. You can add extra fruit such as strawberries, pineapples, or watermelon as well if you would like.
INGREDIENTS
- 10 fresh mint leaves
- ½ lime, cut into 4 wedges
- 2 tablespoons white sugar, or to taste
- 1 cup ice cubes
- 1 ½ fluid ounces white rum
- ½ cup club soda
Gingin Mule
I am a big Moscow Mule fan and this spin on the drink is a fun way to mix it up a little bit.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 1/2 ounces gin
- 3/4 ounce lime juice
- 1/2 ounce simple syrup
- 1 ounce (or more) ginger beer
- Lime and mint to garnish
