After many months of my makeup collection gathering dust on my dresser, I have dived back into the world of makeup with the return the work and I am feeling a new joy towards using makeup.
I have enjoyed my makeup routine for most of my life. I don’t spend a lot of time getting ready but those 5-10 minutes in the morning is a time that I really enjoy and I like having a few minutes to focus on just one thing so I do really like getting back to those routines.
My makeup collection has been cruelty free for over three years now and it gets smaller and smaller every year as I really focus on the things that I enjoy and get rid of a lot of the excess that I don’t love any more.
This year one of my goals is to start replacing my makeup as it runs out with more sustainable and small brands as I feel like that is a great next step as many of the brands I do use and love are cruelty free, but are either owned by a non-cruelty free brand or aren’t very sustainable and I am wanting to go a bit smaller. You will see some of my first products from this goal in this post as I just needed to do my first makeup haul in quite a long time.
If you have any ethical, sustainable, small, cruelty free makeup brands (bonus if they are also Canadian) let me know in the comments so I can check them out. I just found out about Cheekbone Beauty which is Indigenous-owned, Canadian, and cruelty free and I am very excited to check them out very soon.
The brand I did buy from recently is Anada Cosmetics and I picked up a translucent foundation to use as powder which in the future I can only buy the refills for as well as mascara, nail polish, soap, and two essential oils. So far I am very happy with everything that I have used and am excited to keep using the products that I bought.
Face
Currently for my base products I am using a primer from Cover FX which I feel like is working fine. I am using the new Foundation from Bite which I do like, but it may be a bit lighter than I like. I don’t use concealer very often so I usually have one that is pretty inexpensive such as this one from NYX.
My new powder from Anada Cosmetics is both beautiful and working well so far, but I have only used it a few times. I love that I can just buy refills from now on which is great for the environment. I am still using the same highlighter that I have had for years, which was one of my first big splurges, but I have used it so much and there is barely dents in the product.
My eyebrow products haven’t changed in years as I know that they work well. I use the simple brow pencil from NYX and the Essence brow gel because it is simple, but also so cheap. I did notice that Cheekbone Beauty sells a brow gel which is am very interested in checking out.
Blushes and bronzers are the products that I have the most of, but I still do use everything here so I am still keeping it all. The cream blush from Milk is from the Sephora birthday gift this year, but many of the others ones have hit pan and I would love to finish them up.
Eyes
Many of my eye products are similar to past posts as well as my love for neutral, matte eyeshadows still lives. My favourite eye primer has been the one from Urban Decay since I started getting into makeup and the liquid eyeliner from NYX is a long time favourite as well. My new mascara from Anada Cosmetics is pretty natural, but in a good way and I think I am going to like in in the long run.
Lips
Now I am still not sure how much I really need to focus on lips right now when I am wearing a mask most times that I am leaving the house, but I still have a few. I love the lipsticks from Bite more than any other lipstick, but nothing matches Colourpop for lasting power. I love that it is getting into fall which means that I can bring out some of the darker fall colours that I don’t get to wear during the summer.
What are some of your favourite makeup brands? Do you have a holy grail product that has been with you forever? Let me know!
Because I have to wear a face-mask everyday at work, I have not worn any makeup since February. I am becoming really lazy now with cosmetics.
